Why work your business this summer? The short answer is so you can harvest a profit come September and at other seasonal changes.
Business ebbs and flows with the seasons. Don’t believe me? Let me give you some examples.
What happens at the end of August beginning of September? Back to School. People buy new clothes, stuff for school, start a new business.
Okay, now what happens in November? Christmas shopping starts after Thanksgiving. When do the stores put the decorations out? Beginning of November.
Home business owners tend to take this time off. They want to have fun and get ready for Christmas. What do big stores do? They are working.
What holiday happens now? New Years! People make new years resolutions and buy stuff that goes with those resolutions. Target and WalMart always have exercise equipment, videos, etc. ready to go for January.
People have gotten their Christmas bills and decide to start a new business. But if you didn’t keep working and took a break during Christmas, you may not be ready to reap that harvest.
This keeps going.
So what should you do? Start a 90 day plan.
Summer is the BEST time to do this.
Very few people follow through with it.
For the first 30 days, do something everyday – you won’t see results yet (when you plant a vegetable it won’t be full-grown yet either), but you will establish momentum.
At the end of 30 days at about day 45, you start getting action. Most people stop when it starts working. But keep going it advances your momentum.
For the 3rd 30 days you sustain momentum and start leveling off.
Now it’s September people decide to get serious about business. They start buying things. Since you’ve been communicating with your list, the only place they want to do business is with you.
When you are finished with the 90 day plan start another. Do 3 in a row.
Write this down, “If I did 3 90 days back to back I could coast for most of the rest of my career”. Thanks Diane Hochman for the quote.
At the end of the second 90 day plan it is Jan 1st. People go buy things to match their resolutions.
If you start in June you get to take advantage of back-to-school, Christmas/new years.
People who aren’t entrepreneurial start a business in January. They move with the masses. They are on wrong side of the cash register. Entrepreneurs who started in summer are on right side of the cash register come January. They are collecting credit card numbers and not giving them out.
So what are you waiting for? Go start that plan!
